Mahadevi Marriamman Temple
Mahadevi Mariamman Temple stands quietly as a place of comfort, faith, and strength for many devotees in the capital. For generations, the temple has been a spiritual home where prayers are offered for health, protection, family, and guidance. Whether during festivals or on an ordinary day, devotees come seeking peace — and leave with hope.
At the heart of worship is a powerful Tamil chant often heard within the temple:
“Maayi Mahamaayi Mani Mandira Sekariye!
Aayi Umaiyaanavale Aadhi Sivan Deviyare!
Unnai Pola Deviam Ulagathile Kandathillai!
Etravarku Varam Tharuvuaai Ekkala Devyare!
OM SHAKTHI! PARA SHAKTHI!”
The chant praises Amman, the Divine Mother, as the supreme form of Shakti — the cosmic feminine energy. It honours her as Parvati (Uma), the consort of Lord Shiva, declares that no goddess equals her, and asks for her blessings across all times and generations.
Ending with “Om Shakthi, Para Shakthi”, the chant is both a prayer and a reminder: that strength, compassion, and protection flow from the Divine Mother to all who seek her with faith.
